Design Precedent Studeis: Shop and Go

The “Shop and Go” store is located in Bucharest, Romania and was completed in 2017. The company “Mega Image” connected with design studio “Studio ae” to create a store for the brand “Mega Appetite”, housing their cooked food and groceries. However, the design of the store is unlike any other of its kind as the layout, design and signage was meticulously thought out in order to cater for their clients. Most of “Shop and Go’s” clients consist of chefs looking to purchase either specific ingredients or cooked food after their shifts. In order to allow the target group to be comfortable and happy in the space, the design was inspired by an urban kitchen in which customers can easily navigate the space based on what they are familiar with.

The layout of the store houses a ‘kitchen island’ in the centre with all products running around the central display. The products are also catagorised by meal, for example, Appetizers, Mains and Desserts among others. The categories are easily identified by colour as per the design and the order follows a logical sequence. The shop follows a seamless layout similar to a commercial kitchen layout. The central island also houses warmers and cooked meals in order to mimic the hobs mostly found on islands in kitchens. Upon entrance, all ingredients for, as well as cooked, appetizers can be found, and at the exit, the pay points and desserts are found, mimicking the order of meals prepared in a course meal.

The designers wanted the customer to have an ease of navigation and easily visible products, which Studio ae felt other grocery stores lacked. Overall, Studio ae wanted to create a space which was comfortable for the targeted user group, easy to navigate and aesthetically pleasing in order to sell Mega Appetite’s unique selection of foods and treats.
