Going to the Dark Side: Building a Light

Design a light they said. It'll be easy they said. At this point in my life, I'm done listening to people, and although I love my light design, all it's brought me is stress, tears....and allergies.

Needless to say, I didn't even really build it, although I like to say I helped. You know, if it wasn't for my guidance and passing of spanners, none of this would be possible. Considering I am designing a student creative hub, I thought it only fitting for students to build the light, a chance for them to showcase their skills and practice their craft, just as my space allows for. But if I had known what I was getting myself into, I am positive that I would've designed a mat.

I must say, through the sawdust and glow of the welding, and even though I sneezed more than I spoke, I was amazed by the skill and patience of the crafter, and it gave me such a new passion for my project and the reasoning behind it. I mean, it took about 9 hours, but I'd like to think that every second, and trip to the hardware store, was worth it.

My light is looking amazing, and even though I have a lot more stress and planning ahead of me, I'm very excited to see it finished and working. And through the complaining and sneezing, I am having fun through this experience...and I really hope everyone else is too!

A huge huge huge thank you to Rogan, Jacques, Kenny and everyone else that motivated, helped phone around and throw around ideas. Without you guys, I wouldn't have a light.

Stay posted for pictures of the final design. Here are some process pictures in the meantime.
